God Prepares Us for a New Era

MUSIC TO PREPARE US
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed;
Perplexed, but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not abandoned;
Struck down, but not destroyed.

                                  2 Corinthians 4:8-9
WELCOME & OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE
PRAYER OF ADORATION
THE CALL TO WORSHIP:
Leader:    Why do the nations rage?  Why are there impotent mutterings and hatching of futile plots?  (Psalm 2:1)
People:   Behold the nations are like a drop in the bucket.  They are nothing before Yah-weh God!
(Isaiah 40:15)
Leader:    It is justice that exalts a nation, but doing wrong is a disgrace to our whole race.  (Proverbs 14:34)
People:   The Lord says, “I am coming to gather all nations and all races, and they shall see my glory!”
(Isaiah 66:18)
All:         Joy-filled are all who take shelter in this God!  (Psalm 2:12)

*HYMN OF PRAISE:  “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past”    # 210

*UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION:

   Strong God of Truth:  In your sight, nations rise and fall away, almost forgotten.  You led people to this land.  They were looking for freedom to worship you, and to build a nation on the principles of the Bible.  From earliest days, our leaders continue to blur that vision.  Give us again a glimpse of the Holy City, you are bringing to earth.
  Forgive our pride that overlooks national wrong.  Forgive us when we call injustice “Looking out for our national interest.”  Make us wise to deceptions and self-seeking.  Deliver us from divisions of class or race.
  Return us to your way of justice and right.  We want our nation to be a light to all peoples.  Through Jesus, the stalker of lies, we pray.

WE AWAIT GOD’S COMFORT AND CHALLENGE

*PRAYER FOR ALERTNESS
*ASSURANCE OF GOD’S PARDON
*PASSING OF THE PEACE:
     Leader:  The Peace of Christ be with you.
     People: And also with you.

WE RESPOND as FOLLOWERS of “THE WAY”

*HYMN:     “O Beautiful for Spacious Skies”               # 564
*WE PROFESS OUR FAITH (excerpts from Barmen Declaration, 1934)
Jesus Christ, as He is attested for us in Holy Scripture, is the one Word of God which we have to hear, and which we have to trust and obey in life and in death.  Jesus is God’s mighty claim upon our whole life.  We reject the false doctrine that there are areas of our life in which He should not belong nor be Lord.  We reject the false doctrine that the government over and beyond its special commission, should become the single and totalitarian ruler of human life, thus fulfilling the Church’s role as well.  Let us not be deceived by seducers who would pervert the Church.  Test the spirits to see if they are of God.”
WE PRAY for the WORLD, OTHERS, OURSELVES

*CHARGE TO CONGREGATION:  (Ephesians 4 / The Message)

Leader:  Use your gifts and abilities in Christ’s service to God’s world.
People: We will build up the church, the body of Christ.
Leader:  Don’t stop until you become alive in Christ and mature.
People: We don’t want to be “Babes in the woods”, easy targets for imposters.
All:        We want to grow up healthy in God, robust in love.

*WE RECEIVE GOD’S BLESSING
